Developmentally Appropriate Curriculum
The preschool child's role is to grow physically, emotionally, intellectually and socially. This occurs when the child is in a program where the emphasis is on what he or she can do, rather than what he or she knows. Based on our knowledge of child development and how young children learn, we designed our program to fit them. It works a lot better than trying to redesign the children!
Preschool children learn by doing, by touching, tasting, hearing, smelling and seeing things that are interesting to them. Therefore, our program provides activities and experiences that are concrete, real and relevant to their lives. In our classrooms, you can expect to find books, poems, songs, pictures, charts and labels about the experiences children have had at home as well as at school.
Children begin to understand their world through play. In our classrooms, you can expect to see children dressing up, building with blocks, playing with clay or playdough, painting, talking, asking questions, and telling and reenacting stories.
